My class of six and seven year-olds come to school to have a safe and inviting environment where they know they will be loved. Because of the students' socioeconomic status, they don't always have the opportunity to use engaging tools that increases their motivation to learn. We are a Title I school. I want to bring technology with driven and engaging ways to learn in the classroom to make learning fun and exciting each and every day.
I want my students to learn in an environment that they feel most comfortable.
My goal of teaching is to find tools and ways to increase that love of learning and for my students to become lifelong learners.
My Project
I am requesting materials to teach my students about writing and punctuation in a fun and engaging way. I don't want to do the typical worksheet type of lesson, I am "setting the stage to engage" by creating a police themed day for our lesson.
Last year I began doing theme lessons, a themed lesson allows me to transform my classroom into a engaging learning environment that is geared towards one theme.
These materials will be for police week. We will be reading, writing, learning math and engaging in science and social studies all themed around the police.
I am requesting police themed items to use to transform my classroom into a "police department" where students will be practicing writing with correct punctuation as the punctuation police come and check their writing. Writing that does not have correct punctuation will receive a ticket. I will also be doing an edit police lesson where we take a current writing and the edit police will check it for mistakes and determine how to make students writing better. The police vests, hats, and badges will be worn by the students who are playing the police role at that time. Students will take turns checking and editing students writing. The yellow police tape will be used to mark off areas of the room where students will be completing their writing for a more authentic and engaging environment. I will use the buckets to store the reusable materials to continue this lesson each school year.
Help my classroom get to experience writing in a way they never thought possible.
