My amazing students make up one of four 5th Grade classrooms in a diverse school of about 600 students. Together we are part of the largest elementary school within our district.
These incredible 5th Graders come to school fully trusting me to provide them with opportunities to grow and succeed.
They deserve a learning environment that matches their needs, creative lessons that challenge their thinking, and continuous support to prepare them for the future. It is my goal to make sure I have all of these things in place, so they can reach their full potential.
My Project
This past year, our 5th Grade team has been on a mission to transform the way we teach. So far, we have transformed our classrooms into a hands-on surgery, Super Mario Land, a jungle/safari, Punctuation Restaurant, and Sentence Construction Site, all of which have been inspired by the Ron Clark Academy. We are now ready for bigger and better: Superhero Day!
I am asking for your support in helping me transform my classroom into a scene straight from a comic book: A Superhero Classroom.
The requested materials will aid in the transformation process; super hero capes, masks, and a moving spotlight will help make this transformation even more realistic.
The day before transformation day we always pump our students up and tell them "they do not want to miss tomorrow". On transformation day, students walk in excited and curious! Each transformation contains highly educational activities that not only meet our requirements but also keep the students interested. The great thing is that each transformation theme can be accomplished while integrating any subject. We are currently planning on using Superhero Classroom to practice reading comprehension skills (as prep for our state test in spring) the first time around, by having leveled reading tasks that must be accomplished, but it doesn’t mean that comprehension will always be the topic. Once we have the materials our options are endless.
