Help me give my students more variety in their musical journey. With barred Orff instruments, students can learn melody and harmony, and practice rhythms.
My students are AWESOME! I teach students in kindergarten through 5th grade and see them once per week for 30 to 45 minutes each week. They are excited about music classes and light up at the sight of our fabulous instrument cart!
Our school is in an area that is full of brilliant diversity but is economically challenged.
Traditionally a textile area, our mills have closed and left many of our citizens unemployed or underemployed. Resources are limited, but our music cart doesn't have to be!
My Project
Last year my students learned with new rhythm instruments and ukuleles. This year we want to go a step further and explore musical melodies, harmonies, and rhythms with barred Orff instruments. A unique feature of this type of instrument is that the learning becomes visual in addition to being aural. Students can see the pitches laid out before them, can see direction of high and low contours, and can see intervals between pitches.
Even the youngest students can be successful with making music right away with these instruments, playing accompaniment to songs, stories, readings, and even their emotions.
Please help us delve deep into our music learning this year with these exciting instruments!
