Help me give my students some transformation materials so they can take part in a "Pizzeria- Serving Up Decimals" and some drum sticks for our after transformation celebration (and other celebrations).
My amazing students make up one of four 5th grade classrooms in a diverse school of about 600 students. Together, we are part of the largest elementary school in our district.
These incredible 5th graders come to school fully trusting me to provide them with opportunities to grow and succeed.
They deserve a learning environment that matches their needs, creative lessons that challenge their thinking, and continuous support to prepare them for the future. It is my goal to make sure I have all of these things in place, so they can reach their full potential.
My Project
Each year I challenge myself to try and create a new and improved classroom transformation, inspired from the books Be The Wild Card and Teach Like a Pirate. These transformations present students with specific challenges/tasks to complete while utilizing their back ground knowledge in the area.
This year I am excited to transform our lessons on fractions/decimals into an engaging Pizzeria.
Students will walk into a classroom that has a pizzeria ambiance (table cloths, pizza lights, pizza decorations, background music) and they will be presented with "orders" that must be completed. Students will deliver the orders to the customer (wearing their delivery hats), in hopes of following through correctly. Groups will earn Pizza Bucks based on accuracy, and customer service.
In the end, we will celebrate the success of the groups by using the drumsticks for drum rolls. These drumsticks will be used in a variety of other areas to bring rhythm and excitement to daily lessons.
