MSES is a small rural school in Mt. Shasta. This year I have a class of 22 young and energetic TK and K students. They come to school excited to learn and love hands-on experiences where they can play, build, manipulate, and explore. My students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and have different life experiences and needs.
I believe that children learn when they are engaged with hands on activities where they can manipulate and explore.
I try to make my classroom as engaging and as fun as possible. My goal is to bring as many hands-on learning activities as possible to my students in hopes of fostering wonder and life long learning in each and every student that walks through my door.
Each year the TK and Kindergarten classes at our school travel to the park to carol for the Senior Nutrition Program lunch. For as long as I can remember we have used the same bells, many of which are now starting to fall apart or have lost their jingle. This year we are hoping for a new set.
This is such a special time for our students as they see the faces of the seniors light up as they sing and for many of them is their first experience giving back to their community.
I feel its important to teach children at a young age how important it is to be able to do this. This trip is something they remember their entire lives.
