My students come from diverse backgrounds and have a deep concern for the well-being of others! They are constantly observing the emotions of the classmates around them and trying to encourage those who seem down. They know how to reach out with kind words and hugs. They are also thoughtful artists and wordsmiths, writing thoughtful notes or sketching funny drawings to cheer each other up! They are craving other ways to express their love and care, and I want to feed that fire as fast as possible!
My Project
In our current society, it is completely normal to see others or to be ourselves glued to phones or computer screens and scrolling through social media, liking or sharing motivational posts and videos. However, it is rare that a single like makes an impact for good.
Using these looms in my after school service learning club will enable students to create personalized hats for babies born in local hospitals.
This will show them how their actions can change and improve the world positively, one stitch at a time! It will inspire them to reach outside of themselves to learn skills that they can use throughout their lifetime.
