As a special education teacher, I see students with several different challenges and needs. Despite these challenges these kids thrive above and beyond! They love hands-on and engaging activities both inside and outside the classroom. They absolutely love being outdoors playing with their peers and developing their motor skills.
These students excel with interactive sensory-driven activities and equipment!
Some of our students spend their time with their general education peers throughout the day including outdoor activities. Whether they are in the classroom or outdoors, our students light up when they have these social experiences. Together over time our students have learned what is socially acceptable and have formed lasting friendships.
My Project
Materials such as the fit boards will give the students an different experience with the ability to twist or rock from side to side on the board. In addition, some materials will replace items that have been used throughout this year, such as chalk and bubbles.
These materials will provide the students with more interactive sensory driven activities outside that they can share with their general education peers.
We also need replacement sensory balls that have disappeared or has been damaged. The Melissa and Douglas Dilly Dally Target Game will be a fun interactive activity that will enhance the social skill of taking turns.
