Sensory Weighted Blankets to Help Us Stay Grounded

Help me give my students weighted blankets, Scotchgard to protect them and lavender essential oil spray.

My Students

My amazing, energetic students are some of the most incredible people I know. Despite their cognitive, behavioral, and emotional disabilities, each student contributes unique strengths, talents, and insights to our classroom. Helping my students master challenging content, grow as individuals, and become positive members of society is an honor. Each student has diverse educational and emotional needs that are best met through hands-on learning experiences. Being a Title I school, most of my students come from impoverished homes and face additional challenges such as food insecurity, lack of basic supplies and lack of transportation, and reduced access to resources.

My students' emotional and behavioral disabilities, as well as intellectual disabilities, lead to additional challenges in the classroom that require creative interventions to improve focus and learning, especially during the pandemic that continues to alter their lives and routines in so many ways.

My students enthusiastically pursue any opportunity to enrich their learning through fun, hands-on activities, such as the garden, cooking, and vocational skills, but they sometimes struggle to focus during the activities. My goal is to guide my students as they aspire to reach their maximal personal, academic, and behavioral potential!

My Project

My incredible students with a range of disabilities try so hard to stay focused and calm, but it is a real struggle for them. Most have experienced multiple traumas in their lives, and are working with our counselors to learn coping strategies. Having a variety sensory support allows students to choose which sensory support will best help them at the moment.

My students with Autism and other mental health concerns require extra sensory support to self-soothe and reach their maximum potential.

We are requesting two weighted blankets for students to use. We currently have a few, but they are very popular, and they have to be sanitized between uses. We are requesting Scotchgard to protect the blankets, because they do not do well in the washer. We are also requesting essential oil Lavender spray that they can spray on the blanket as an extra sensory assist.
