My students attend a high-poverty middle school in Seattle. All of my students have Individual Education Plans and require additional support in all classroom settings, and many of them are students with high-functioning Autism. Even though school is hard for many of them, they have a strong will to success and do their best every day.
They all love to read and explore different worlds through books!
They all have great humor and a lot of knowledge to give the world every day. They bring me so much joy!
My Project
I am asking for books and sensory toys for my students. Both of these items provide a way for the students I work with to calm down when they feel sensory overload. Many of my students are on the Autism Spectrum and experience sensory overload often.
My classroom is a space where they can relax before heading back to class.
The sensory toys I have requested will help them regulate and calm down quicker. The books I am requesting are mainly graphic novels because my students are extremely visual and love reading books with graphics. I have also requested books for my students who are reading at a high school and college level.
