My students need help with their social/emotional/behavior to be successful at school. In our school district, 50% of the students, come from low-socioeconomic homes. My students are amazing students. Each student has their own personal challenges. Often time my students need a place to decompress, calm down and regroup from the stresses in their day. Sometimes they feel overwhelmed by the various responsibilities they have at home, in the community, and at school. Each student comes into school with situations that might weigh them down and those situations can have negative impacts on their ability to learn effectively.
My Project
Students will be able to utilize these sensory tools to assist them with focusing, attending and calming down. Students will be able to borrow these tools and use them throughout their day in the classrooms or in my office.
Whether the student is working to develop social skills with peers, behavioral and emotional regulation, improve attention/focus, develop organization skills, or manage classroom behaviors, sensory tools can regulate a students arousal level in order to get at these higher-level skills needed for classroom success!
Creating a sensory space in my office is a great way to encourage the student to explore their senses and develop coping strategies in a place where they feel comfortable and safe.
