Our students are simply amazing. They are hungry for learning. They come in every morning ready to engage in all aspects of learning, however children who display learning difficulties due to sensory issues work twice as hard to make sense of the world around them.
Imagine a child who is eager to learn but is distracted because their chair is not the right height, the seat underneath them has no texture, or their core muscle is too weak.
These are some of the issues that effect our children.
My Project
Can you imagine environment where it seems like you have ten people giving you information all at once? Well this is what it feels like to a child with sensory issues. These tools will help keep our children's attention during task. Our community has a wide array of learners. Our learning environment consists of auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and tactile learners. We are eager to enhance our learning environment.
By providing our classrooms with these tools our children will have an assortment of materials to meet each individual child's needs.
When students who elicit poor vestibular or core centers have to work at their desk this is often a difficult task. When a child can't sit properly at their desk and maintain sitting good position writing becomes frustrating to them. They begin to get irritated and start to sit on one leg or stand to compensate. When a child is provided with a wiggle stool they are able to balance themselves and remain focused on task. Another example of these tools enhancing learning is the animal pressure bags. Some students can sit still in the circle area causing them not to focus and take in information, however when these pressure animals are placed in their laps or around their shoulders it calms them and they become attentive and they are able to process information. Sensory integration disorder is the inability to process information through your five senses. These tools are invaluable to our student's success in the classroom.
