My Students
Our school exists to holistically support the education and development of students who have the determination, drive, and skills to shape their own path of high achievement with the ultimate goal of creating civically engaged, joyful citizens who are ready to change the world
As Special Education Coordinator, I work with the kids who need the most love and support.
Many of my students with disabilities need extra interventions to fully reach their potential. The best place for my students to learn in the general education classroom, however often times they are overstimulated, hyperactive or unable to self-regulate.
My Project
All of my students want nothing more than to be in the classroom learning. Creating high quality work, managing peer relationship, transitioning from topic to topic and all the other day to day stress is a lot for a young mind to handle.
My students need sensory tools to help them self-regulate and become their best possible learners.
These materials would help me integrate skills that I teach in individual sessions into each students classroom. Students will be able to use the sensory tools to help manage emotions in the classroom, which allow them to not miss any valuable learning time. Visual timers help students be able to take a break in an alternative seat in the classroom, without having to leave the class. Weighted blankets help students who are fidgety or need the feeling of help or support. Some students have described having a weighted blanket as being in a constant hug. Fidgets will help students keep their eyes and mind on the teacher, while having an outlet for their sensory needs. Noise cancelling headphones allow students who are sensitive to noise be more involved in school wide events, which sometimes can get a bit noisy!
