Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have never worked with such a resilient group of children as the ones in this elementary school community. Many of our students are from low income homes and are first to second generation immigrants. Our students recently suffered a tragedy to add to their many layers of obstacles in their lives. The Merrimack Valley had a gas explosion that impacted our town and surrounding communities. As a school we closed our doors putting safety first and had to close for two school days. Our students depend on our school breakfast and lunch for daily meals. As a school we thought our attendance would be low when we reopened, but our attendance was surprisingly high. That is just an example of our school community.
My Project
The goal of sensory tools in school is to support participation, engagement, and interactions that promote skill development and learning. Whether your child is working to develop social skills with peers, behavioral and emotional regulation, improve attention/focus, develop organization skills, or manage classroom behaviors, sensory tools can regulate a child’s arousal level in order to get at these higher-level skills needed for classroom success!
Sensory tools in the classroom or a specific location in the school are used to support the child’s “readiness to learn.”
Sensory tools are intended to promote regulation, improve focus, increase participation, and therefore enable your child to be available for learning!
The Therapy Putty and Stress Ball Kit are great tools for stress relief for kids and a great coping tool for ADHD as a fidget toy.
The Gaiam Classic Balance Ball Chair supports the release of energy a student may have and provide alternative seating. These simple everyday tools are a great help to students that need something extra to take the edge off and allow them to focus on learning.
