This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a school social worker, I work with students of all ages in an urban, low-income school district; our students and staff members work hard to ensure that lots of learning is happening in our buildings.
In my small groups and individual sessions, students have the opportunity to learn and practice skills that they will always be able to use.
Through hands-on activities, students learn how to be good friends to one another and how to be good students and citizens. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to teach students the skills they will need to know in order to become successful adults one day. I love how hard my students work to improve themselves and learn appropriate coping and social skills. We always have fun and learn so much. Students with better social-emotional skills perform better academically.
My Project
Academically successful students need to know how to self-regulate. Tools such as kinetic sand, waterbead balls, and tangle fidgets can help students calm down so that they can be successful in school. These sensory toys can also help students feel calm and safe while expressing themselves in counseling sessions.
My students have always loved blocks, magnetic tiles, and colored pencils.
We would like to add more to our much-loved collection; these toys bring peace and confidence to my students. Thank you for supporting my students as they increase their self-regulation and coping skills. We are truly very appreciative. Thank you.
