My students need a variety of sensory integrated supplies like Finger Crayons, Finger Paint, Paper, and Velcro to further assist in daily educational and life skills while functioning on the Autism Spectrum.
Have you ever felt the sensory overload of needing adapted tools to complete simple daily tasks? Can you imagine a student striving to learn life skills and educational needs without modified materials to ease their sensitivities and deficiencies?
I have the pleasure to work with seven children who live day to day with severe and profound Autism.
My public middle school, low functioning, self-contained classroom ranges from 6-8 grade. Four of my students are non-verbal, and all of them suffer from extreme sensory, auditory, and visual sensitivity which affect their focus, speech, learning styles, and fine motor skills. My seven students are such sweet students who have a strong will to strive towards achieving daily educational and life skill goals which assist in pushing them towards future independence. With adapted materials and desensitizing techniques, I will be able to successfully work with my students in all educational and daily subjects.
My Project
My students will greatly benefit from the materials I am requesting. The Fidget Rapper Snappers are a great tool to calm during times of sensory overload. These colorful tubes will also work as an incentive type manipulative to encourage color recognition, counting, and the life skill of sharing. The Easy Grip Scissors will change our students life by adapting cutting so our students may not only work on their fine motor deficiencies, but place the building blocks of striving towards handwriting practice. As art is an important form of creative expression, the Finger Crayons, Finger Paint, Paper, and Velcro will contribute to sensory release, communication,and fine motor skills. The Slant Board and Carrel will aid in visual stimulation and will boost productivity when teaching writing skills, reading skills, and motor capabilities. Finally, with all of my students requiring deep pressure techniques, the Dolphin Wrap will boost learning attentiveness through desensitizing methods.
In conclusion, all of the sensory and fine motor educational materials I am requesting through this grant are very much needed to create a more successful learning and teaching environment for my self-contained AU students.
These items will assist the nourishment of learning and aid educationally with sensory and fine motor stimulation for many school years and students to come. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
