My students are lovable, eager to learn, and every day is a new day. I can not imagine teaching anything but pre-kindergarten special education. My students come to class with smiles on their faces and do not let their disability define who they are. Our school is located in a low-income district and almost 100% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. With all of the budget cuts, our school supplies and learning materials budget has been greatly affected.
My Project
As a teacher it is my job to provide a safe, loving, and nurturing classroom environment for my students. The sensory light, bean bag, liquid tile mats, doodle tablet, and trampoline will be utilized in the sensory area to help calm my students when they get over stimulated. When children with disabilities, especially autistic children, get over stimulated they often have a difficult time calming down. This area would provide a safe place for the child to calm down until the child is ready to participate again. The items on this list will all help in that process in some way. Due to the lack of classroom funding I have the space but missing the items for this safe place.
