This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are pre-school to first graders in a self-contained supported learning classroom. They are a very diverse group of learners, and many face daily challenges that most adults have never had to.
They deserve the best, and I try each day to deliver just that!
Despite any limitations they may face, my students are an enthusiastic group of children that love to try new things and get very excited when we get to introduce something new. I have a friendly, outgoing class that is eager to learn and a joy to teach!
My Project
Dinosaurs, water beads, farm animals, pom-poms, sand, and so many other wonderful things can be put in a sensory table. The learning opportunities are boundless!
The sensory table is a center for exploring with your senses, experimenting, scooping, and pouring, squeezing and squishing (building fine motor skills for writing), sharing, and turn taking.
It is the center in which a child can watch reactions, mix colors, repeat observed phenomenon, and try new things.
These are important learning opportunities for all children, and even more so for children with cognitive and physical developmental delays. A sensory table and its contents can help students engage in multiple forms of learning at once all through play!
