Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The donations for this project will benefit my Early Intervention Pre-School Special Education students. Our district is located in an urban city in Southern Connecticut. I teach both morning and afternoon classes with over 35 three- and four-year-old children each school year. I work on teaching many things including school readiness, early learning, and social interaction skills.
The children who attend the Early Intervention Program have been identified as needing special education support due to academic or developmental delays.
As a Preschool Special Education Teacher, I am so honored to be a part of each child's journey and to see their academic growth over the course of a school year.
My Project
We love to play with sensory materials! The benefits of sensory play for children are endless, and we make sure that students get many opportunities to explore. Over the years, our program has accumulated many things to put in a sensory table. Some of the things we play with include (but are not limited to): Fabric Leaves, Dried Corn, Instant Snow, Real Snow, Cotton Balls, Dry Sand, Mold and Play Sand, Easter Grass, Rice, etc. We have a collection of digging materials, funnels, scoops, and themed items to put inside the table. Our current sensory table is in need of replacement. It is no longer able to be drained, as the drain had to be repaired and covered with duct tape. In addition, the edges of the table have recently cracked in two areas.
We are in need of a brand new heavy-duty sensory table.
This new table will have a drain for easy use. It includes wheels so that teachers will be able to move the table easily around the classroom. Most importantly, the table will have a heavy duty top to keep the center closed when not in use.
