My Students

I am an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. I have a total of 48 students between the two classes. More students are added as they turn 3 years old. Being an inclusive classroom, half of the students are on an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Classifications of my students that have an IEP are autism, developmental delay, speech-language impairment, and multiple disabilities. I know when my students are challenged, engaged, and happy to come to school then everyone wins.

I am at the forefront of helping my students prepare for their future.

My mission is to prepare these students for the kindergarten classroom. They need to be able to have social play skills, know how to come up with solutions to solve a problem, and follow instructions and process the information given by the teacher.

My Project

This project is full of materials for our classroom. Sensory play is important in a preschool setting. Children and even adults learn best and retain the most information when we engage our senses. Providing children with opportunities to actively use their senses is crucial to brain development.

Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem-solving skills, and social interaction.

Sensory activities facilitate exploration and encourage children to use scientific processes as they explore and play. With the pandemic sensory play has been limited in the classroom.
