Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a turn around school. They are inner-city youth who have disabilities. Many of my students struggle with the socio-economic struggles that occur in the city, and have various traumas or struggling home life.
My students are bright, have all the potential, and are motivated to succeed.
Their drive, resolve, respect and passion are only a few of the character traits my students have. Additionally, my school has a social-emotional behavioral program that we are trying to revamp. These students have various barriers they need to overcome and it is our job to help.
Our school has a Social, Emotional, Behavioral program where students receive additional therapeutic services. Much of these items will be used to support our highest need students.
My Project
Please help provide sensory supports for our students. Our school has a Social, Emotional, Behavioral program where many students are seeking sensory output to manage their emotions and behaviors. The bounce bands will help give kids movement during class, the weighted ball, bean bags and lap pad will provide students with the ability to meet their need for sensory touch during the day. The books are to help train and teach our program staff to better implement a more social emotional learning approach for our students. The pens are to help students as incentives and grade their work. The sitting pad is to help support students who might need a bit more movement in their seats.
