The students I work with are creative, free-spirited, resilient, and the most loving children you will ever meet. These students come from various backgrounds, who come to school with barriers to their learning that are difficult to overcome. I work with students to assist them in learning how to regulate their emotions and expressing their feelings in a positive, safe manner. My students struggle to understand how to regulate either emotions, and it impedes their ability to learn while at school.
My goal is to assist these students in developing strategies independently, so they are better able to independently regulate their emotions.
My Project
My goal is to create calm down boxes in order to foster each students emotional needs. When a student feels angry, sad, excited, and/or scared, they will use the sensory tools in this kit to regulate their body and emotions. This will allow the students to get into a place where they are able to learn.
When students are experiencing intense emotions such as anger, sadness, etc, they need tools to assist them in regulating these emotions in a safe manner.
The extra support of fidgets, weighted blankets, wiggle seats, and other sensory tools will allow students to independently regulate their emotions. These tools will allow students to manage their behavior and give them the confidence to learn in the classroom.
