I teach a wonderful group of young children with special needs . I teach students with disabilities including, but not limited to: autism, other health impairment, and significant developmental delay. They are sweet, funny, kind, energetic, and so very amazing.

My students have a variety of sensory needs. Each student requires their own unique "sensory diet." For example, some students benefit from weighted items, while others benefit from auditory and/or visual stimuli. As a teacher, I must first meet my students' sensory needs before I can teach them meaningful content. As a second year teacher, I have not yet gathered enough items to properly provide the sensory experiences my students require. This project would provide more sensory choices to help my students develop their self-regulation, and aid them in calming down. These are valuable life skills that need to be taught early. Your donation is very much appreciated and I send my sincere and heartfelt thanks.
My Project
These sensory items like gel and color mix will make the world of difference to the students in my classroom and their school experience. These students experience a variety of challenges in school and require special supports to help them regulate, cope, and organize their reactions to certain events and experiences that can send their emotional and sensory regulation out of alignment.
The weighted items that I have requested will help my students who receive their sensory regulation through deep pressure and heavy work.
Combined with the weighted vests and lap pads I already have, my students will have a variety of choices. The fidgets will help my students who have difficulties paying attention and keeping calm in their classroom. It'll provide a way of outputting their energy while still maintaining attention and focus on their teacher. The vibrating pillow can help students in two ways. For some, it awakens them and gives them the energy they need and for others it is a calming method to help regulate. I am very excited to see the changes these materials can make to these kiddos' school experience. They deserve the absolute best!
