Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so fortunate to teach an amazing group of differently-abled kids. My students are 4th - 6th graders who we are preparing for the big transition to intermediate school. We work on everything from reading and math to social skills to physical education and even personal hygiene. In my classroom, we teach it all.
Every day my students work to overcome obstacles that would defeat the average person.
They want to be just like their general education peers and work every day on similar projects and assignments tailored for their learning levels. I am proud to be their teacher on a daily basis.
My Project
I teach a wide variety of students with sensory needs. Some of my students require something tangible to fidget with like bike chain or the colorful fidget stretch toy to get out some of their frustrations with activities. Some of my students need to be able to calm their senses by focusing on something moving like the liquid motion bubbler. And some of my students like music to calm them which is why the iPod shuffle would help our class tremendously.
It is my hope that in writing this grant for sensory supplies, I will better be able to attend to the needs of all my students and give them a way to manage their own sensory needs.
