Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each day my students, ages 5-8, walk into my classroom ready and excited for a day of learning and new discoveries despite the challenges they face because of their Autism. They are always ready to learn and I am always looking to push them a little more.
My students are all labeled as Autistic and many of them have other disabilities such as ADHD, ODD, speech, etc.
They range in age from Kindergarten to third grade and come from poor homes. Despite everything that stands against them, they are the happiest kids and love coming to school each day. My classroom is geared towards each individual student's needs and they are given the opportunity each day to learn on the level that is best suited for their individual needs.
My Project
Because my students are of varying academic levels, I need to provide many different tasks during the day. Some academic tasks I have included are the sort and snap, skills board, alpha pops, sorting crayons, preschool alphabet, and sequencing sets. These tasks include the opportunity to allow them to get sensory input during the day to help reduce their impulsively during academic activities. Such materials that can provide sensory input are the trampoline, stability balls and mega ball packs. The materials I am requesting will help each student receive the sensory input and academic rigor he needs.
This project will make a difference because my students feel less than the other classes.
They see all of the resources that a regular education classroom has that, as a special education classroom, we are not given. This project will inspire my students to keep trying and to realize that they are just like everyone else!
