My students need sensory items such as 4 squeeze balls, 5 fidgets, 1 pack of pencil grips, 3 cushions, and 1 ball seat to help them stay focused during instruction.
Focus, Focus, Focus! Sometimes all students need a little bit of help to focus their attention on the task at hand. Sensory items often help students focus on instruction. They can provide the level of sensory input individual students need. Therefore, we want a sensory station in our classroom!
My school is public elementary school serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
I teach in a third grade classroom with 23 precious 8 and 9 year old students. All of my students are extremely eager to learn, but some of them often struggle with focus and attention.
Many of my students require active movement and sensory stimulation to maintain focus. Therapy ball chairs, cushions, fidgets, and sensory balls are the perfect way to keep them engaged in learning while providing the much needed sensory input.
My Project
Through the use of the therapy ball chair, cushions, fidgets, and sensory balls requested, I can allow my students to sit comfortably and maintain their focus on instruction. I will be able to create a "sensory station" where individual kids can choose which type of sensory input is needed at that given moment.
These sensory items requested are ideal for children with autism and attention problems. Many children with autism spectrum disorders face a broad range of challenges and have a need for dynamic sitting. The nature of the therapy ball chair and cushions provides freedom to fidget; therefore, these sensory items can improve behavior and engagement. Having a sensory station in my classroom will allow me to help my students with autism and attention problems maintain focus on instruction.
Donations to this request will make a positive difference in the lives of my students, especially those with autism, because I will be able to provide them with alternate, dynamic sitting and fidgets.
With the increasing number of students identified with autism, it is important to have a classroom equipped with effective tools to meet all of their unique needs.
