This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a district-based Head Start preschool program that serves young children and their low-income families in the city of Philadelphia. My preschool students are energetic avid learners that love exploring despite the insurmountable challenges the global pandemic has placed on them and their families.

I strive to provide my students opportunities in fun, engaging, educational activities and experiences that develop a foundational, lasting love for learning.

My Project

I am creating this project with the goal of developing a "Quiet Sensory Station" to assist my students in self-regulation and learning calming strategies that will be stimulated through sensory exploration.

Successful sensory stimulation without sensory overload is crucial in any child's daily learning.

I have been working on developing areas in my classroom that provide my young learners sensory sensitive learning experiences that facilitate their learning based on their needs and interests. The light table bundle will be used to provide a new sensory supportive opportunity for my students. The shelves will help me organize sensory materials in a fashion that is easily accessible by students with little adult guidance. The art easel will serve a similar purpose while providing students opportunities to express themselves through self-initiated art activities.
