Students in Exceptional Student Services (ESS) have identified disabilities and receive Special Education and related services through Individualized Education Plan's (IEPs).
At Archway Scottsdale, our ESS Team develops IEPs that ensure our students progress in and have access to the general education curriculum.
My Project
Since the 1970s, sensory rooms have been used as a therapy tool to help people with emotional, social, and physical needs. Today, schools across the world are implementing designated sensory areas for student support.
The purpose of the Sensory Space at Archway Scottsdale is to create a safe, comfortable space for students in all grades (K-5) to take necessary brain breaks, engage in movement activities, and regulate their nervous systems and emotional responses.
This space will also be designed to address individual student sensory needs in order to help them learn and function at their highest ability. The intentional use of sensory equipment and specialized lighting is proven to increase focus and concentration, promote cognitive development, and decrease emotional stress. Depending on the need of the student, the space will stimulate, educate, relax, calm, and energize.
After having a positive experience in the Sensory Space, students will return to their classrooms ready to engage in learning.
