"There are two ways of meeting difficulties: you alter the difficulties or you alter the way you meet them." (Phyllis Bottome)
Each of my students face some type of difficulty and it is our job to help them alter the way they meet them.
My students are amazing.
Most do not use words to communicate yet they have a way to let you know what they are feeling. They have a sense of humor and joy inside them. They attend a school specifically for severally disabled. Each classroom has approximately 7 students, one teacher and two teacher aides. Most of my students need all of their basic needs met by staff.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will give my students an opportunity to explore, benefit from touching a variety of textures, to build fine motor strength and to have some FUN!!! Throughout our school day our students have the opportunity to visit our sensory room providing the requested items my students will have the opportunity to make a choice - something many of them never get to do. It can calm many and stimulate others. A sensory room provides a chance for my students to be successful!!Grab n balls can help students fine tune fine motor skills. The bean bag frogs provide an opportunity for "heavy work". The students will be stimulated by the vibrating frog and the scented wrap kitty kuddles.
The sensory room is a recent addition and with limited funds the room is still very sparse.
We need items to make it feel like a true sensory room for our students. Our students need a variety of items to use with all of their senses. Our students need to know what it's like to touch a variety of textures - to hold items of different weights - to squeeze different items and to experience cause and effect ( I do this and THIS happens).
