Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in a fully inclusive urban school where the majority of students are living in poverty. The students in my school are excited to come to school and learn everyday. My goal is to create an environment that is safe and comfortable for student learning.

My students have a variety of disabilities but they still learn alongside their non-disabled peers.

My students are just like any other students except that they have to overcome additional obstacles in order to learn alongside their peers. Therefore, they need additional support, materials, and other modifications in order to access the same learning as their peers.

My Project

Many of the students I serve have sensory diets. This means that they require sensory activities throughout the day to support their learning. The aroma therapy, kinetic sand, water beads and fidgets will provide my students with a variety of sensory input throughout the day. This will help regulate a variety of their sensory systems and as a result they will become more engaged in learning. These items will be placed in a sensory corner so that my students are able to access them throughout the day whenever they need them. I know with these materials my students will be able learn and grow along their non disabled peers.
