My Students

I work in a high needs, urban public school with students who have a variety of special needs. My role as a school-based therapist allows me to work with some of the most amazing kids who have to work extra hard just to make it through a typical school day.

My students have many special talents, but with diagnoses such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, learning disabilities, and emotional disturbance, their special needs are often what gets the most attention.

I hope that with your help, they can overcome their deficits so that their strengths can help them shine to others the way they shine for me!

My Project

My role as a school-based occupational therapist allows me to work with some of the most amazing children. They are bright, motivated and full of energy. Despite this, they are often in trouble with their peers and teachers because they are unable to sit still, control their impulses, read social cues, and follow directions. Their special sensory needs cannot be met by the current classroom setting.

With a few special sensory items such as weighted lap pads and compression vests, I find that students that are otherwise "out of control" have a much easier time exhibiting self-control.

Not only do they feel more comfortable in their own skin, but they have a much easier time fitting in to the school environment at large.

Despite their challenges, they have many special gifts to offer. I hope that they receive these items so that they are better able to learn and grow and achieve success!
