I teach 8 unique students with autism that all process information differently. My students struggle with receiving and responding to information inputted via their senses, making teaching difficult at times. Help me conquer the puzzle of autism by providing sensory enriched activities.
LRS is a Title One school with a free and reduced price lunch rate around 60 percent.
Take a closer look into my classroom and you will see students learning in very unique ways. You will see students carrying heavy boxes, students getting big deep pressure hugs from teachers, students wearing weighted vests, students wearing sound cancellation headphones, students making noises, students rocking back and forth or students doing their work while bouncing on a ball. Are we on task? Of course! But we are staying on task with the assistance of sensory equipment and we are in need of more!
My Project
My students are going on a diet!!! A sensory diet that is! A diet that will nourish a child's nervous system and ultimately nourish their brains for knowledge. Full of swings, roller machines, heavy lifting input and weighted vests! With your help I would like to provide the above mentioned devices to all of my students with autism that struggle with sensory processing. By having sensory materials available for my students they will be able to regulate their sensory needs and consequently learn better. By providing me with appropriate sensory equipment I will be able to better help my students understand the world around them.
Imagine trying to sit and listen to a teacher, but your body can't stay stop moving.
Imagine not being able to focus because it is too loud and you can't process all incoming information. Imagine trying to sort colors, match shapes and identify letters but you can't organize the information. These are problems my students encounter daily. They have the ability to be proficient learners but their body needs extra assistance which I can provide with the aid of sensory equipment.
