Help me give my students items to increase engagement through their senses! Through providing multi-sensory tools, students will be able to make more connections to our learning goals.
I teach in a rural school in the heartland of America. Our school district is dedicated to setting high expectations and working with students to help them reach their greatest potential. Some of my students are learning letter names and sounds while other students are learning to read multi-syllabic words and non-fiction text.
My students are active learners who learn best through playing, singing, building, and exploring!
They have disabilities that make their learning experience a little different than their peers. I teach in a mild-intervention classroom where we serve students with disabilities such as Autism, ADHD, Emotional Disability, Specific Learning Disability, and more.
My Project
I already have activities in mind for the materials I am requesting! The chewable jewelry gives students a safe way to engage their need to chew! Scented dough will provide great opportunity to practice forming letters, stamping words, and identifying colors. The chime will allow for a calm way to gain students' attention. Finally, the fine tip markers are needed for my students who are learning to write. The fine tip is easier to manipulate than a broad tip marker and students are more successful when practicing their writing!
With these new items, students will be able to process ideas and concepts through engaging their senses.
The more we can integrate multi-sensory learning, the more connections the brain can make!
