My students need lap pads, Bouncy Bands, and other equipment to enhance their sensory processing abilities and help them pay attention throughout the school day.
The students at my school live in a high need area, where every student qualifies for free breakfast lunch. They face many struggles both inside and outside of the classroom, yet they are resilient and eager to learn.
As an occupational therapist, I service students with special needs ranging from autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, dysgraphia, and learning disabilities.
My goal is to provide students with the resources they need to enhance their participation and independence throughout the school environment.
My Project
My students have special needs that affect their ability to focus in the classroom. They need various equipment to help their sensory systems achieve an optimal level for learning and attention throughout the day. A weighted lap pad will provide deep pressure to calm my students that are over-stimulated and seeking sensation which prevents them from learning. Noise reduction headphones will help students that are easily distracted by external stimuli. Fidget objects will help students that need tactile stimulation in order to focus. Seat cushions and chair/desk bands will help students that need a extra movement that they do not get when sitting at their desk. Each of these products will bring my students one step closer to independence and achievement in the classroom.
