I currently teach in a Title One school where my students are often in our free lunch and breakfast program due to their low socioeconomic status. I teach students who have emotional and behavioral disabilities. These students are often diagnosed with mood disorders, ADHD and autism. They have many sensory needs. They can be verbally and physically aggressive. Without my support, they would be unsuccessful in school.
The students I teach, need differentiated sensory items to focus and complete their work.
They are very active and need items which allow them to exert their energy in positive ways rather than negative ways.
My Project
The bounce balls, hands-on math games and sensory balls will provide my students with hands-on learning, sensory stimulation and flexible seating in order for them to be successful in the classroom. My students have severe emotional, behavioral and sensory needs and need these items as accommodations, to stay focused and learn in the classroom. Often, my students need to come to my room for sensory relief so they can calm, refocus and get back to the classroom where learning occurs. These students take frequent breaks and balance balls, a sensory ball, pattern blocks and math towers will be part of their break or their one on one learning. They have a ton of excess energy and these items will help relieve them of this energy to help them learn.
