I teach in a Special Education Resource classroom at a Title 1 school in Southern Oregon. I see 60+ students who experience a variety of disabilities on top of living in a lower socioeconomic area. My students work hard to find success and community in their school and neighborhood. They come to school everyday looking for relationships and connections with adults and each other.
My students learn in a variety of ways to support their learning.
I work hard to give them the accommodations they need, teach them how to advocate for these needs, and support their classroom teachers in providing the learning environment they need.
These materials will help my students get the sensory needs they have met to help them focus on their work as well as help their teachers have access to the materials they need to meet these needs. Often, classroom teachers ask for help in providing sensory items and seating for students and I can only offer them one or two options. These do not help each child equally. In addition, the board games will allow me to help teach students how to appropriately use the seating when in moments of excitement or high stress.
With these seats, fidgets, and games, my students will be able to meet their sensory needs and my teachers will be able to teach their whole class.
