My students range in age from 3-5 and are in a special education preschool program. My program is located within a high poverty area of the city. My students come to me with a variety of needs and are often times recognized as having the following disabilities: autism, intellectual disability, hard of hearing, speech language disorder, other health impairment (cerebral palsy, spina-bifida, etc.). A large variety of my students need support in all areas of development, with a large emphasis on social interactions, and small and large motor skills. Many of my students learn about their environment through the use of sign, verbal and auditory support, and kinesthetic input.
I teach the most beautiful children in the world! I know they come to me with pure hearts . . . ready to learn about the world around them. I love providing them with as many opportunities as I can during the short time I have them. Early intervention is so important with all children, but especially important to children with specific needs.
I am blessed to be an educator in this field.
My Project
I teach the most wonderful children, and all of them come to me with different abilities and needs. I know that many of my students are learning how to self-regulate and attend, and need support along the way.
I believe that by providing my students with the sensory input they need, they will be able to access curriculum to the best of their
abilities.
The proprioceptive needs of my students can be addressed through age-appropriate materials that are aligned to their interests (weighted stuffed animals, fidget toys, chew toys, and magnetic builders). My students can learn through touch and feedback, while growing in their ability to maintain attention and focus.
