My students need sensory tools within the classroom to support their varied needs. Having specialized seating (bean bag chair and plush chair) can support their emotional needs and provide a safe classroom environment.
Our students are part of a special program within the school that provides them with the support that they need. Our students have emotional disabilities and behavioral difficulties which impact their daily lives. With the appropriate plans and team, students can become successful and join the mainstream classroom.
Our students are hard workers who require additional support to stay on track.
They have many goals which they focus on throughout the year. Many of my students reach and surpass their goals!
My Project
The sensory seats will make a difference in my students' learning by providing them emotional supports. Given emotional supports in the classroom, students are able to better maintain their behavior therefor able to access curriculum. The bean bag chairs and the double back chair will help provide pressure supports for emotional well being along with a safe, calm environment. When my students are in a safe emotional space, they are able to access academics and make age appropriate gains. Our goal as a program is to support our students with emotional supports so that they can eventually mainstream into the general education classroom.
These seats will improve their school lives by providing necessary sensory supports.
These supports will help students feel calm and grounded. In addition to the sensory support, they will provide a more comfortable, welcoming classroom environment.
The desk tags, paw prints, resource accents and banners will be used as decor in the classroom as well as the rest of the school building. With these resources, I will write positive, motivational quotes for students to read and reflect on daily.
The air freshener will be used for our sensory room to help support students sense of smell and provide a calm space.
