Hi! I teach preschool special education in Allegheny County, right outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I’m a different teacher than you might be used to, as I travel around three school districts and push-in to preschools, daycares, and homes of students aged 3-5 that have IEPs. I have up to 40 students in three low-income school districts and I try to provide them with the most comprehensive services possible in their natural setting! My students have varying degrees of developmental delays and other disabilities, but are smart, curious, and so loving!
My Project
Help me stop sensory processing issues from impacting the education of my students. Many of my preschool special education students have sensory issues that can keep them from being able to fully access their classrooms the same way that their peers can. I am asking for many different seating options to have students keep at their preschools to fully participate in activities. Some of these options are wobble stools, wobble cushions, and tactile pillows. The goal is to fade need through these stages and then hopefully to needing no special seating. I also included some items to work on adaptive skills that many of these students experience, such as special pencils, dressing practice boards, and a microphone to practice speaking skills. These students will learn to cope with sensory needs while still being able to be included in instruction!
