My students need stability balls that allow movement to focus instead of those hard, uncomfortable desk chairs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Second graders are very active bodies. Through the use of stability balls, my students will be able to achieve more in the classroom while being "active sitters". Stability balls are a great tool for my students to be engaged academically and promote good health at the same time.
My students are from a wide variety of economic and social situations.
They attend a public school in low-income community that has quality teachers, high expectations, and great parent support. However, the school district is struggling financially and money for extras is not available. Consistent is the need for an outlet for the wiggly, fidgety child who often gets in trouble for moving too much.
My Project
The use of stability balls instead of chairs strengthens upper torso and back muscles, increases muscle tone, and demands that the body focus on maintaining positioning and balance. The fidgety, inattentive child benefits because muscle attention is on positioning while the brain focus in on attention to task. Children's lives are changed by the ability to be successful in the classroom instead of constantly in trouble for their "inappropriate" wiggling.
By helping our class and donating four stability ball chairs, you will be helping four young children learn to their highest ability.
They will no longer be fidgeting with their chair or other distractions around them, instead they will be gaining the attention and focus needed to be a productive student in the classroom.
