I work with students that suffer from cases of ADHD, anger management and oppositional defiance disorder, as well as many kids on multi-levels of the autism spectrum. I’ve discovered that alternative chewelry and silent fidget toys have saved them in the classroom lately! I have one student in 8th grade who was constantly chewing on paper clips and other metal items because his parents couldn’t provide durable chewelry. I bought a pack for him and the change in behavior was immediate. I’ve also used multiple types of fidget toys that are jelly-like and mesh pockets with marbles in them that my ADHD students and anger management students have had a lot of success with.
My Project
All of these products will help a multitude of students with focus, aggression, and sensory needs! I have chosen silent fidgeting toys that I’ve personally watched students with oppositional defiance disorder use to calm themselves down enough to redirect and use their words to discuss what it is they are feeling or what they need. I’ve also chosen multiple sensory stimulating toys that both relax our ASD students and help them to focus with their new sense of calm. I have chosen other fidget toys to help keep the classroom quiet and functioning for all students who have ADHD or just a hard time concentrating on the material.
