Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Different but not less! This is my motto for my special education students at RES. Not only are these kids classified as a minority because of their income and race but they are also singled out for their difficulty with learning. My students are all diagnosed with disabilities that affect their learning. They have a variety of diagnoses that include developmental delay, autism and specific learning disorder. It is incredible to see how motivated these kids are to learn and succeed despite all the adversities life has thrown at them.
My Project
My goal as the special education teacher is to help students find their 'safe zone' that will maximize their learning. Special education students just need a different environment or a different approach than other students to be able to focus on learning. The resource classroom is where I teach my kids to find out how they can meet their sensory needs without distracting others and without missing out on learning opportunities.
With these supplies students will be able to use special seating, or sensory tools to learn what helps them the most.
Simple things such as ball seats, or soft seats can really come a long way. This classroom is also known as a 'safe zone' where the students can come during any recess time or before and after school to receive help with school work.
