Help me give my students the ability to redirect and control anxious energy
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
One of the things that i love about the scholars of Hazelwood is the fact that they are eager to experience and try to effectively use the resources we expose them to. They love to broaden their horizons.
Hazelwood scholars are scholars that love to experience new things.
as these scholars in particular began to come into their very own personalities and develop who they are we love to give them exposure to learn what it is they like and need. we pride ourselves in not silencing their voices. each student has a unique personality and they respect one another. no person is better than the other. do they have their differences? YES! However they work through them each time.
this project will be used for in person learning only. these items will afford our scholars the opportunity to redirect anxious & nervous energy & to focus on instruction. these sensory items affords them the opportunity to be able to have organized or controlled breaks that will also keep the mental stimulation going. i believe that all scholars should be afforded the opportunity of sensory breaks or sensory moments as needed through out the instructional day. I also find that sensory items can also stimulate the minds of our scholars.
Not only that, these scholars have started school during one of the most difficult times in education in the past 50 years.
With facing a pandemic, having to learn remotely, then hybrid learning now to full in person learning with different protocols & systems in place. unfortunately our new scholars have not yet experienced consistency in their education. i believe these products will help each scholar make their uncertainties about learning a little easier.
We also believe that our scholars have gone through a tumultuous time through out the pandemic. many of our scholars have suffered many losses, many to include loved ones (including parents), the loss of their homes, the loss of friends & social connections. Hazelwood is a title one school so we encounter many families who suffer with the lack of finances and resources. with that in mind Hazelwood has become a hub for our families & we provide resources; However i want this project be designed specifically for our scholars to let them know that we have not forgotten about them. Yes they benefit from what we assist the family with but we want to give them something designed specifically with them in mind.
