My students are creative, funny, and unique. Many of them also have sensory needs that go without being met.
As teachers, we have seen an increase in the need for sensory expression and we want to build a dedicated space in our building for that purpose.
This space will be open to use by everyone in the school, but will be used daily by students in the self-contained classrooms. We would love for your help and support in creating our first Sensory Room!
My Project
These materials will help us create a safe space for students to explore and experience in a way that helps them calm and center themselves and become more focused learners.
The gym mat, balance beams, and yoga balls are all essential instructional materials to transform this room from a classroom to sensory safe space.
We would like to set up zones within the room for vestibular input, deep pressure needs, calming light and breathing exercises, yoga, and balance. When the students are able to meet their sensory needs in such an environment, less outbursts and interruption to learning will happen in the classroom.
