My Students

My students are special because each one is unique and no two students are the same. Each students face their own personal challenges as well as challenges posed by their environment. All of my students have great sensory needs that we have to meet on a daily basis. I work in an under funded urban district. The staff help to fund and fundraise as much as we can, although it is not enough to reach the amount of students we have. My students are creative and enjoy group activities in which they can all participate in their own ways.

My Project

We are trying to get items and supplies for our programs Sensory room. Our students require a lot of sensory input. Given the chance to explore this helps them through their day. Teachers try to incorporate small sensory strategies within their classrooms, but students need a bigger space with more equipment to engage in such sensory activities. The district does not provide enough funds to purchase bigger items. Teachers often purchase their own items for their classrooms. After having 2 big fundraisers we still have more to purchase for the room. The students would greatly enjoy a room like this that we have planned.
