Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have equal opportunity to develop our talents." John F. Kennedy. This quote cannot be more true for my students. Their talents are hidden on the inside struggling to come out.
My students have various disabilities such as Autism, Intellectual Disability, and Learning Disability which means that learning and communicating is a daily struggle for them.
Not only do they struggle to learn but it is difficult for them to function in a normal classroom because of their outbursts due to the inability to communicate their needs. They are in a Title 1 school where it is 95% reduced-price or free lunch. They love to learn new things even though it is a struggle for most of them.
My Project
My students have Autism and Sensory Processing Disorders. As students with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorders they require sensory throughout the day to help regulate their bodies and minds. The items I am requesting are going to be used to upgrade their sensory room. We need updated materials for the students' sensory needs.
We are requesting a new swing, specialized seating, weighted lap blankets, peanut balls, items for fine motor skills, and a ball pit.
These items are used during sensory rotations to help regulate the students as well as work on their IEP goals for fine/gross motor skills and calming techniques to help them learn in class.
