This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my school are eager to learn and be successful. They are curious about the world and love to learn through STEM experiences. It is encouraging to see such young minds engaging in science and inquiry. Our school is full of diverse students needs and learning styles. Some of our students thrive with movement and benefit from wiggly stools and hands on activities. Other students are more successful when their sensory needs are met. While others love visuals and the arts. At my school we work to provide a learning environment that meets the needs of all of our learners. This is an incredible group of students and I look forward to seeing them continue to learn and grow throughout the year.

My Project

As a Behavior Intervention Specialist I get to work with students in all grade levels that struggle with behavior and social settings. I work to provide a space that is safe and welcoming to teach them strategies and skills that will help them in their classrooms. I plan to use books as mentor texts to help teach feelings and emotions during my social group interventions.

Also, The students benefit from specialized seating to meet their behavioral and sensory needs.

For example, seating that allows them to bounce or move helps many students to fidget and get out extra energy while focusing and engaging in learning. I plan on using these seating options in my Behavior room as well as checking them out to classroom teachers to help in their rooms.

Another trigger for many of my students is sensory needs and over stimulation in the classroom. As such, I would like to have sensory toys and games in my room as part of a "Calm Corner". That is an area dedicated to meeting my students sensory needs. This is important because it helps to calm and reset students so they can return to their learning.
