Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Albert Einstein said, “ Play is the highest form of research.” Preschool is an integral part of a child’s learning journey that will shape them into future engineers, teachers, doctors, scientists, and anything they can think of becoming. I teach in an early transitional kinder/Preschool collaborative classroom in a lower-income community. The community around us is composed of mostly Hispanics and Arabs. Due to the hardship my students had to face last year and continue to face; they are limited in resources. Yet, my students continue to learn to play, read, write, count, and, most importantly, be a kid.
My Project
I want to build a sensory area in my classroom so my students can use it to relax and calm their bodies. Most of my students have never been in school physically due to the last years' school closures. However, due to the many difficulties they have been through in the past year, my students are learning to self-regulate and find ways to relax their bodies independently.
The materials we asking for, including putty, sand, sensory bins, texture, and soft play objects, will help them self-regulate.
By providing suitable materials and a place to feel safe and comfortable in the classroom, my students will succeed academically, socially and create a sense of independence.
