Our classroom is made up of 20 of the most amazing children with a unique dynamic of typically developing children and others with special needs. Our classroom was created to promote inclusion for those children who need special services. Our typically developing students are role models who promote proper language skills and appropriate behaviors. However, our students with special needs really teach everyone how to love unconditionally and make our classroom such a loving and fun place to be.
We become a family and it is such an amazing feeling to come to work each day and watch each child grow and learn in their own unique way.
We are a special class full of special students who deserve the best! We come from a wonderful small town who loves and supports our unique little class. These little ones are definitely loved and we want to provide the best education possible. Giving back to these little learners not only enhances their learning experiences, but gives back to the community as well.
My Project
My students need a light table and manipulatives to help foster a hands-on creative learning environment in the classroom. Light tables provide students with a unique and fun way to learn new skills such as counting, adding, letter identification, shape identification, color identification and play where imagination is fostered.
Students with special needs often learn best when presented with hands-on, kinesthetic solutions to learning new skills and tasks.
Tactile objects give students the power to learn new skills using whole body movement to process new and difficult information. Students at this age respond more to activities that allow for movement and freedom instead of listening to the teacher instruct verbally all day. This light table would allow for a great deal of learning in my classroom and my students would be so grateful.
