My classroom is designed for students with moderate to severe disabilities (Autism, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities, Speech Impairments, and Other Health Impairments) who are not able to access the general education curriculum without significant modifications. My students need extensive direct instruction and support in multiple settings to acquire, maintain, and generalize academic and functional skills necessary for application in school, home, and community environments. They depend on others for most daily living needs and usually require extensive ongoing support in adulthood.
"Sorry about the laughter volume, chaos, and mess, but we are learning".
This quote seems to encompass my classroom environment well, especially on recipe Friday! My goal is to provide the skills necessary so that my students fulfill their potential and become productive members of society.
My Project
Tactile pillows, privacy partitions, and adaptive scissors are little things that will help my students' education go a long way!
These materials will provide my students the sensory input, privacy, and the fine motor help they need to reach their potential!
Tactile pillows are great for sensory exploration! They will provide my students the sensory input they need while relaxing in our Calm Down Corner. New privacy partitions will help reduce anxiety and eliminate distractions. Having adaptive scissors on hand will help my early learners who are developing their coordination and struggle with fine motor activities.
