The students in my class are bright, curious and are excited to learn about new topics. Our classroom is a mix of first, second and third graders who have all been classified with a disability and require special education. Their disabilities, however, do not limit their excitement for learning.
Our wide range of ability make for a really exciting, fun environment to be in.
There is always something, for both the students and the teachers, to learn. We all make progress and learn together every day.
My Project
Many of my students have sensory sensitivities, and they require outside help to calm down. Loud and overwhelming noises can easily be addressed by noise-canceling headphones. Or when a student feels overwhelmed with their environment, a weighted blanket would help them become more grounded and help them relax. These tools would help give my students the ability to both calm down from when there is too many sensory stimuli around or to help avoid sensory overload altogether.
By avoiding sensory stimuli in the environment, my students will have a more calm, comfortable space to work in.
It will give them to opportunity and the ability to limit some of the outside distractions and focus more on the tasks at hand. We are so excited about learning, and these tools will only help us progress even more!
